Browser Storage Notes
A temporary note, a downloaded file and a tracking cookie are different things. Here is what the atlas’s own features do.
Cookies and local storage
Cookies are small values a website can ask your browser to store and, depending on their configuration, send back with requests. Local storage is a separate browser facility that scripts can use to retain values between visits. The atlas’s reading pages and worksheet script do not create cookies, use local storage or install analytics and advertising identifiers.
If a separate site-wide privacy control is displayed by the hosting environment, that control may retain your consent choice. Its displayed information governs that preference record. The worksheet does not use or need such a record, and optional tracking is not required to read these articles.
| Feature | Where information exists | How long it remains |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile menu and reveal effects | Current page memory | Until the page is closed or reloaded |
| Question worksheet | Current page fields and preview | No deliberate persistence; browser restoration may vary |
| Copy text | Your device’s clipboard, after your action | Until replaced or cleared under device settings |
| Download note | A file saved to your device | Until you delete it |
| Page assets | Browser or network cache | According to cache settings and response headers |
The worksheet is not a submission form
Typing updates the plain-text preview within the page. Copy text requests clipboard access; Download note prepares a local text file. Neither action sends the note to us. Reloading may clear your work, although some browsers can restore form fields through their own history or autofill features. Save a copy yourself if you need one, and avoid sensitive information on shared devices.
Browser caching is different
Your browser may cache HTML, styles, scripts and photographs to avoid repeatedly downloading unchanged files. That is a normal delivery mechanism, not a visitor profile created by the worksheet. Website requests can also generate hosting or security logs; see our Privacy notice for the distinction between server-side request information and browser storage.
Your controls
You can inspect and clear site data through your browser’s privacy settings, clear browsing history or disable JavaScript. The articles and navigation links remain available without JavaScript; the dropdown enhancement, entry effects and note actions need it. Disabling clipboard permission does not prevent you from reading or manually selecting the preview. Delete downloaded notes separately using your device’s file manager.
External sources
Source links lead to independent websites which may use their own cookies or other storage. No external source needs to load merely to read our text. Review the destination’s policies if you follow a link.
